Let’s talk about Southern recipes, because I have so many. The recipes I share with you have been passed down from one generation to another; some are close to a century old and are still a favorite to this day. Most of the ones that I share with you are from my grandma Viola and Iva, my grandpa Riley and my great grandma Eva, and others are from other family members who over the years have shared their recipe treasures with us. So, let’s dive in and see what this week’s recipe holds.
Quick Spice Cake Sift together 1 ½ c. flour, 1 c. sugar, ½ tsp of salt, 1 tsp of soda, 1 tsp of cloves, 2 tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg. Add ½ c. shortening, 1 unbeaten egg, 1 c. buttermilk all at room temperature. Beat until smooth then pour into a loaf pan and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Raisins may be added by shorting flour 2 tbsp and adding it to ½ c. of raisins. *Recipe from Grandma Viola
