Choosing a title

4/29/2023

How do you choose the title of your next book that you're working on and when exactly do you?

I didn’t know the title of my first one until I was ½ way through it, but the minute I figured it out, I knew without a doubt that it was the one. Sometimes you just know what you want the title of your book to be and other times, you can write for weeks or months on end and not have a clue, but trust me, it’ll come to you when the time is right.

Are you a fan of Ernest Hemingway? If so, what book or books by him do you tell others about if they’re looking for something by him to read?

What's the best way to interview someone?

4/26/2023

Something that I learned early on while writing was to always have a small tape recorder with me at all times, so I could record thoughts, or if I had an opportunity to interview someone related to my story, I would have it with me to do so, with their permission of course. Most phones today have a recording feature so if you are able to interview someone for a story you’re working on and you have their permission to do so, you can also use that.

Paris Lace Cookies!

It’s recipe Tuesday! I found another one from my Grandma Jackson and it looks like a good one, Paris Lace Cookies!

Paris Lace Cookies

1 c. sifted all-purpose flour, enriched
1 c. nuts, finely chopped
½ c. corn syrup
¼ c. shortening
¼ c. butter
2/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed

Combine syrup, butter, shortening and brown sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat at once then add flour and nuts gradually. Blend well. Drop from teaspoon onto a greased baking sheet 3 inches apart. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes then remove from the baking sheet with spatula. If desired, roll into cone shape while warm. Cool on a wire rack.

What is your favorite flavor: chocolate, strawberry or vanilla?

I always go with chocolate, unless Neapolitan with all three flavors is offered!

Do you reread books?

How many copies of your book do you have on hand and do you ever reread it like it’s your first time picking it up? I found myself doing that to The Notorious Texas Swindler. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I knew every detail about the story from beginning to end, I still read it like it was my first time. And for the record, I have plenty of copies stashed away, because don’t all authors dream of seeing their book sitting on their bookshelves at home? I know I do, hence, the reason I have several copies on hand! It’s so fun to randomly place them on my bookshelves next to other authors' books who I enjoy reading or plan on reading who’ve done the same thing.

Have you read Love Her Wild?

One of my favorite reads is a book of poems by an author known as Atticus. He is a very talented writer and if you read one of his books, you’ll see why. The one that I have is titled, Love Her Wild. He has written several books, so don’t worry if you’re not sure which one to get, because anything by him will be great, and I have a feeling he’ll become one of your favorites too!

Are you a Night Owl?

Do you have a certain time of day that you prefer to sit down and write? Or are you a night owl and belt it all out during the evening hours while burning the midnight oil? I don’t know that I have a particular time in mind, but I seem to be most productive during the nighttime with my writing, because that’s when it seems to be the most quiet for me.
